How to clean a vape device properly

When you’ve spent your hard-earned cash on a quality vape, regular maintenance is important. Many of us have probably experienced this: you’ve had your vape for a few months and it starts to feel a little gunky, the performance is lacking, and it just isn’t what it was before. The truth is, your vape doesn't need replacing, it probably just needs a proper clean!

All vapes are made up of different components. The basics include a tank, a coil, and a battery. These components can all be separated which makes cleaning the device a whole lot easier.

Your tank (the section that holds your e-liquid) should be cleaned every time you change your e-liquid flavour. If you tend to stick to one flavour and very rarely switch it up, you should aim to clean your tank at least every few weeks anyway.

How to clean vape tanks

As we mentioned before, cleaning vape tanks should happen every time you change the flavour of your e-liquid. This will remove any residue and prevent the flavours from getting mixed. If you’re vaping a new fruity flavour e-liquid, you don’t want the remnants of last week’s dessert flavour e-juice ruining the experience! Cleaning vape tanks between e-liquid switch-ups will allow your flavours to come through properly, with a powerful punch.

When it comes to how to clean a vape tank, you first need to disassemble your device. Remove the tank from the battery mod, remove the coil from the tank, and empty out any remaining e-liquid. You’ll then want to separate any additional pieces on the tank section, such as the mouthpiece.

Next, put all components of the tank into a bowl of warm water (this does not include the coil!). You can also add a small amount of washing-up liquid for a slightly deeper clean. Wash the parts in the water for a few minutes until clean. You may wish to use an old toothbrush to really get in there and give it a proper scrub.

If you have used washing-up liquid, make sure you rinse everything in clean water afterwards.

Once the tank is clean, give everything a wipe with a dry cloth and then leave the pieces to fully air dry.

Pro Tip

For a deep, sterilising clean on your drip tip or mouthpiece, you can use a device like the Aspire Degerm Drip Tip Steriliser

Research states that there are more than 600 different microbial bacteria in human saliva. When this bacteria leaves the mouth, it can become more dangerous and can cause lots of health problems.

So, it’s no surprise that the drip tip or mouthpiece of your device is the germiest bit! If you're wondering how to clean your vape device effectively, you may want a deeper clean of this section in order to ensure all germs are removed. The Aspire Degerm Steriliser does exactly that – it will wipe out all bacteria in just 30 seconds, meaning you can vape more safely.

How to clean vape coils

Unfortunately, you can’t exactly clean your vape coil. The process of cleaning vape coils will mean getting them wet, which is likely to ruin them and cause them to burn out.

When your coil becomes a little worse for wear, you simply need to replace it entirely. Coils usually need replacing roughly once every 2-4 weeks, depending on how often you use your vape.

You can tell when your coil needs replacing as the flavour will become slightly burnt-tasting, and the real e-liquid flavour will become far weaker. You may also find that the coil visually looks darker, it may begin to leak, and your vape may produce less vapour than usual.

Once you start to notice these effects, simply pop out your coil and replace it with a new one! Luckily, coils are usually very cheap, so replacing them regularly is not a problem.

How to clean a vape battery

When we say ‘battery’, we are referring to the main chunky mod section of your vape – not the actual battery inside of it! Nevertheless, this section of your vape does not need to be thoroughly cleaned.

You definitely don’t want to clean this section in the same way that you would your tank, as the battery contains all of the electronic components that make up an electronic cigarette. And as we all know…water and electricity do not mix!

Instead, simply wipe down the outside of your mod with an antibacterial wipe in order to remove any germs, dirt, and residue. This will be completely sufficient cleaning for this section of your device.

And there we have it! When it comes to how to clean a vape pen, following these basic tips can help you to make a habit of regularly cleaning your device. This will cause your flavours to come through properly, your vapour production to feel more powerful, and your vape to last longer. You’re welcome!
