What is CBD E-Liquid?

Most vapers (and probably most people in general) will have heard about vaping CBD as it has grown in popularity over recent years. But what exactly is the point? What does CBD e-liquid do, how can it help me, and what is the difference between that and a normal e-liquid?

Here at the Vape Simple manufacturing facility (SVC Labs), we make a variety of CBD products - including CBD e-liquids - as well as our vast range of regular e-liquid brands. This means we are experts in the CBD e-liquid world! In this article, we will help you to understand exactly what a CBD e-liquid is and whether or not it will suit your needs.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol - it is a special type of compound called a cannabinoid. It’s derived from the hemp plant which is a variety of Cannabis - but CBD will not get you high! Although it comes from this plant which is often associated with a ‘high’, CBD alone does not cause any psychoactive effects. It is actually an entirely different cannabinoid - THC - which causes these reactions.

There are different types of CBD extract that are used in CBD products. Sometimes there will be other cannabinoids in the extract - such as CBG or CBC (or even small amounts of THC) - or terpenes, which are the essential oils found in plants that create scents, flavours, and can provide therapeutic benefits.

Usually, CBD e-liquids will just contain pure CBD isolate. This is a simple concentration of CBD alone which comes in a powder or crystalline form. It is tasteless and odourless which means the flavours of the CBD e-liquid can properly shine through!

You can find many other CBD products on the market such as CBD oil, CBD sweets, or CBD skincare products. However, CBD e-liquids are the most effective and fast-working of the products. Unlike with CBD oils or sweets, when you vape CBD it enters the lungs where it can directly diffuse into the bloodstream very quickly. It does not need to pass through the digestive system, the liver, or anything else. This means that more of the CBD can reach the blood and have an effect and that this process happens far more quickly. So, when you vape CBD, it can be 4 times more effective and effects can occur up to 60 minutes faster than with other CBD products.

What Are the Effects of CBD?

CBD is thought to help the human endocannabinoid system function better and essentially balancing its processes. This is a system inside every human body that is responsible for many functions that contribute to homeostasis (homeostasis = the state of steady internal physical conditions maintained by the body).

These functions include pain, mood, sleep, inflammation, immune system, memory, stress, and much more. So, in summary, it’s thought that CBD may be able to help with problems in all of these areas.

This is the top reported reason that people use CBD. It can include chronic pain, muscle and joint pain, exercise-induced pain, arthritis, headaches, etc (pretty much any pain you can think of!) CBD is thought to be effective for pain relief due to its anti-inflammatory properties and the fact it may balance the endocannabinoid system which regulates pain response.

Stress / Anxiety

Lots of CBD users claim that it can help to induce feelings of calmness when anxiety or stress becomes overwhelming. Since the endocannabinoid system regulates our anxiety and stress responses, it’s thought CBD may help to balance this and deal with unnecessary feelings of anxiety (i.e. when we experience anxiety that is not as a result of a genuinely threatening situation - like being chased!) Many people choose to vape CBD for this reason due to the fast-acting relief.

Many sleep problems are caused by other factors - such as stress, anxiety, depression, or pain - things which CBD may be able to help with. So CBD might be able to help with sleep disorders by treating the root causes. In addition, it’s thought that the endocannabinoid system helps to regulate the sleep-wake cycle. Therefore, CBD may be able to help you to fall asleep, stay asleep for an appropriate amount of time, and feel more awake and rested during the day.

How Do You Vape CBD?

First of all, do not put CBD oil in your vape tank! CBD e-liquid and CBD oil are 2 very different things - CBD e-liquids are specifically designed for vaping. If you put a regular CBD oil (designed to be taken orally) it will not react very well with your e-cigarette device!

Secondly, it’s best to use a small, low-powered device such as a vape pen or a pod system. This is because CBD e-liquids don’t usually require a lot of power to be vapourised. These types of devices are much easier to use and maintain - plus, if you vape normal e-liquids as well, it’s much easier to have a small and simple device on the side for your CBD.

Another thing you’ll need to consider is the strength of your e-liquid - CBD e-liquids contain different amounts of CBD and therefore have varying potencies. The strength you choose will depend on the severity of your condition (i.e. how strong to you want the effects to be), and how often you plan on using your vape. If you want to use your vape throughout the day, you may want to choose a lower strength and vice versa. If you’re unsure, the best thing to do is start with low strength and use it less frequently, and gradually increase your strength/ usage over time until you reach the desired effect.

Once you’ve got your device and your CBD e-liquid ready, it’s the same process as any mouth-to-lung vaping. First, you’ll need to prime your coil - simply squeeze a few drops of e-liquid onto the coil and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes so that the coil can fully saturate. Then, your device is ready to use! Inhale the vapour into the mouth, then breath it into the lungs, and then exhale. Start by having just a few puffs and waiting for around 10-20 minutes to see how it affects you. Then you can decide whether to use more or not.

Another thing to note if you have not vaped before: your coil will need replacing. The frequency of this depends on your usage habits, but on average they need replacing roughly once every 2 weeks.

What Are CBD E-Liquids Made From?

CBD e-liquids are very similar to normal e-liquids, except they contain CBD! Just like all e-liquids, they contain a combination of VG and PG. VG stands for vegetable glycerin, and PG stands for propylene glycol. These are both colourless, odourless liquids used in foods, cosmetics, and - of course - e-liquids.

Different e-liquids use different ratios of these 2 components. In CBD e-liquids, this is often 50/50 - this creates an ideal balance between flavour delivery and vapour production and means it’s more suitable for low power devices.

Non-CBD e-liquids (e.g. shortfills like Cheap Thrills or Wonutz) will often use a ratio of 70/30. This means that more power is required to vaporise the e-liquid properly - these are more designed for vape enthusiasts who want strong flavour and large vape clouds.

The next ingredient is flavourings - these can be both natural and artificial. In some CBD e-liquids - including the Cali Cush range - hemp terpenes may be added for flavour. This is a great way to create authentic, natural, hemp-inspired flavours that may also provide some further therapeutic benefits.

The last ingredient is CBD extract. The Cali Cush CBD e-liquids are infused with 99.9% pure CBD isolate. This is the purest and most potent form of CBD, whilst being tasteless and odourless which allows the full flavouring profile to come through. In addition, it is 100% THC-free!
