Making the switch to e-cigs is a big move. You spent time finding the right e-cig starter kit to gently introduce you to the ever-expanding world of vaping. Unlike smoking cigarettes though, you are now free to explore the hundreds of e-liquid flavours available to use in your shiny new device.
So, how do people pick the best e-liquid for a vaping device?
What Is Vaping E-liquid?
If the idea of adding liquid to your electronic cigarette seems strange, it’s important to understand exactly what e-liquid is and how it fits into the vaping experience.
Vaping involves inhaling a liquid that has been heated to become vapour.
E-cig liquid is the solution that contains the flavouring and desired nicotine concentration that the vape device uses to create the exhaled vapour.
Is E-Liquid Safe?
From vape juice to liquid nicotine, e-liquid is often referred to by a number of different nicknames.
UK e-liquid is extremely safe and is actually a relatively simple mixture containing differing amounts of the following;
- Nicotine (for bottle sizes up to 10ml)
- VG (Vegetable Glycerin)
- PG (Propylene Glycol)
All of these ingredients are blended to create various different e-cig flavours that we can use to fuel our electronic cigarettes and help replace unhealthy addictions to traditional toxic cigarettes packed full of thousands of health hazardous chemicals.
Regulating the manufacturing and sales of electronic cigarette liquid is the Tobacco Products Directive which introduced new rules governing the sale of e-liquids in May 2017. To comply with these rules and be recognised as TPD compliant e-liquid store in UK, the following rules are to be followed:
- E-liquids for sale with nicotine must not contain more than 10ml of liquid.
- E-cig tanks must have a capacity of no more than 2ml.
- Comply to strict labelling and advertising rules.
E-Juice Nicotine Levels Available to Buy in the UK
One of the rules by the TPD states that in the UK e-liquids for sale must not contain nicotine strengths of more than 20mg. The following strengths are available to buy:
- 0mg (no nicotine)
- 3mg nicotine
- 6mg nicotine
- 12mg nicotine
- 18mg nicotine
- 20mg nicotine
How Much Nicotine Should My E-Liquid Contain?
The answer to this question is simply based on personal preference.
Some people have made the switch to vaping from smoking cigarettes. Not only can smoking cigarettes harm your health but they also make it especially difficult for people to reduce their reliance on nicotine – the chemical that makes us addicted to cigarettes.
Vaping allows you the opportunity to have much more control over the amount of nicotine your body absorbs. E-liquids are available to purchase in a variety of different nicotine strengths which means that you can slowly restrict your nicotine levels as one of the ways to quit smoking.
Choosing your nicotine levels in your e-liquid will depend on your current addiction to the substance. For example, if you currently smoke heavily you should choose a higher level of nicotine in your e-liquid to match your current habit. By doing this you are less likely to pick up a cigarette when trying to quit.
Plus, once you become used to vaping, you can experiment with varying levels of nicotine strength to begin the process of reducing your bodies addiction to nicotine.
Did you know?
Most people believe it is nicotine that causes cancer by smoking. There is actually no evidence to prove that this is true and it is the other chemicals in each cigarette which contribute to the harmful health effects that smoking has become known for.
Juice Flavours in E-Liquids
There are hundreds of different brands of e-liquid manufacturers that offer various different flavours to make vaping so exciting.
From custard vape liquid to blended recipes of aniseed e-liquid, you can even purchase e-juice which mimics the unique taste of a cigarette (an option often chosen by those looking to quit the habit).
Many people find that they stick to the juice that was given to them when they purchased their e-cig. However, vaping the same liquid or flavour for too long can mean your taste buds become too accustomed and it doesn’t seem as flavoursome as the first time you tasted it.
This is why it is important to explore the different flavour combos available on the UK’s vapour juice market today.
